A fictional story of love and scandal in the Greek Parliament set in Athens, Greece, in the 1990's it tells the story of a young English woman, Imogen, who has taken up teaching so that she can spend a few years living abroad. Though she has no talent for teaching, she is English, and this is enough for her anglophile boss who offers her a job in the Greek Parliament. Imogen accepts the job in an attempt to impress an errant boyfriend despite knowing very little about teaching and even less about Greek politics. In the heat and glamour of the location and under the influence of alcohol she begins an affair with a married politician who is one of her students. When electoral fever hits Athens Imogen realises the romance is not going to work out quite as well as hoped but by then it is far too late to turn back.
